The Tutor
I have been teaching Art and Art History in Gloucestershire for over 40 years. I taught at Cheltenham Grammar School (now Pates) and at Bournside School, before moving into Further and Higher education. I then lectured in Art History and Theory at the University of Gloucestershire and at Stroud College , teaching students of all ages.

For a few years I have been running a private Adult Education class which has proven to be very popular and which covers the subject in greater depth than is usually possible in a non-accredited course. I began this class in 2002 when the University of Gloucestershire closed down their Adult Education Department, and my group of students wished to continue their course elsewhere.

Although the classes were thriving, due to Covid restrictions my regular groups have unfortunately had to cease, but I will eventually (when we are allowed, and when people feel safe to attend), start lecturing again.  This will not now be on a very regular basis every week, as the previous courses operated, but will take the form of an occasional day school on particular topics, and will take in a range of methods, periods, and styles of art and architecture.
These day schools will cover Fine Art (painting and sculpture) and other related subjects such as architecture, photography, and graphic design.  They will deal with style and meaning, showing how a work relates to the society which produced it, and will show the development of the visual arts over the ages up to the present day, mainly (but not only) in the west.
